Check out the LA Times article about the changes during summer school at Locke High School since Green Dot took over this summer and an article regarding a new program the Partnership has brought to Santee High.

The media is watching! Any alternative to LAUSD will be under scrutiny, but supported. The successes at Locke seem promising but may be premature and superficial at this point, interesting that only 30% of teachers remained post Green-Dot...that story would make for an interesting article.

As far as the collaboration between Santee and LA Trade Tech, its a no-brainer, the two are a block from each other. Students NEED elective/"trade" classes to keep their educational program engaging and enriching.

When I took my 8th graders to the LA Times for a field trip, every student was in awe of the "test kitchen" on site for the Food section. By the time we were half way through the tour about five kids had asked how they could work at the paper. Many told me they never thought eating food could be so informative. Minds and taste buds opening wider!

Thanks for keeping us posted on pertinent news.

I think this article serves as an insight to the change that is needed. We are currently under servicing our children. I do believe that the teachers from Locke left partly because of the lack of security. In other words you are no longer protected by the union. If a teacher is not putting in 100% into his/her profession there is no union to protect you. That Locke is a hard school, absolutely. That many who have worked there have given less than 100% absolutely. It may take years, but change will happen. I personally applaud all those that remained at the school. Taking the bull by its horns.
